1) Message boards : Number crunching : Lost Pending Credits (Message 1078)

Hi!

In "my account" and "tasks" all my wus have disappeared! the problem is I've got about 50 of them waiting to be crunched on one of my computer. I believe that if I try to update then they will all disappear from my manager as those of Alinator, so what should I do?? keep them and try not to communicate with the project or update it and lose them all?

La frite

If they are already lost in your account you won't get credits for them anyway so I'd cancel them (or update the project from your BM). ;-)

Did it happen again?
I just had a look in my account (wanted to know if my pendings were granted) and... no WUs left to look at! *sniff*
Thank god I lost only a small amount. ;-)

Caught one of these WUs, too: http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/workunit.php?wuid=181050 Hmmmmm....

EDIT The result ID is here: http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/result.php?resultid=606139

...Please deny workunits from this app. I think you can do that in the project settings.

I think we can't choose apps yet in our project prefs. ;-)

I killed a bunch of workunits. I'm going to hand out credits anyway using a script.

Hehe... workunit killer. *grin*
And thanks for the answer, that's more than I had hoped for.

Same question again:
I have a lot of WUs which were finished without error but with this message completed, can't validate... what has happened?

Example: see this host's results.

PS. I know it's alpha here, so the question is just out of curiosity and not meant as a complaint. ;-)))
8) Message boards : Number crunching : Some downloads are failing... (Message 171)

The checksum error has gone but...

9) Message boards : Number crunching : Pendings... (Message 165)

Post:
I wonder why this one failed http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/result.php?resultid=82069

I am not sure what error -195 means in this case. The stderr out says error -195 and according to the BOINC FAQ it means:

ERR_NO_APP_VERSION -195

BOINC couldn't find the application's version number.

But the app version is listed at the bottom of the result page. *scratches head*
And all the co-crunchers had no problem with that WU either...

Post:
... The pendings simply mean the other users are being too slow to process their results :)

Hm, but the quorum of 3 has been met but still the WU is pending!
Example: http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/workunit.php?wuid=23584

EDIT: Haha, now it just got granted. *LOL*

Yes, I have been "away" from ABC... I am trying to crunch some more "helpful for Mankind" projects... but it is good to see you !

You could post a bit in the LOTPHW, it'd be more fun! :-)

the WU's crunch very quickly under 64 bit Linux... 4 minutes or so... what about windows ??

Yes, Linux is much faster (~7 minutes for me under Linux x64) compared to Windows (~36 minutes).

EDIT: And hi, Rod! :-)

same here..hoping its just while the app files download...

I am not sure. At least it's only ~10% of my downloads failing, most WUs come through nicely.

Hiya Cori ! long time no see !!!

Hi veebee! Good to see you!
I am missing you over at ABC... ;-)))

17) Message boards : Number crunching : Gromacs fail (Message 99)
Posted 4 May 2009 by Profile Cori
Post:
So you understand the problem.

This usually means your system is exploding,

This means there is TOO much energy in the system we are analyzing. The work unit used the wrong set of parameters. The correct ones use amber force fields with a water solvent specifically created for amber force fields. I have to go back and test this stand alone to make sure things are configured correctly. I've had this issue before.

Note this output

wrapper: running gromacs/bin/mdrun_d.exe (-v -deffnm em)
........................................................
Steepest Descents did not converge to Fmax < 10 in 201 steps.
Potential Energy = -1.18241811322552e+06
Maximum force = 9.52834676764033e+04 on atom 20
Norm of force = 4.69034012625327e+02

This step must succeed in minimizing the energy of the system before we go to the next mdrun step.

Thanks for the explanation, Jack! :-)

PS. I loooooove the quotes in the stderr out, for example:

gcq#18: "You Should Sleep Late Man, It's Much Easier On Your Constitution" (Beastie Boys)

18) Message boards : Number crunching : Gromacs fail (Message 96)

GROMACS requires much more Tender Lover & Care (TLC). I'm afraid anything over 1 hour is probably never going to complete but if you have the ability to use unix core utilities, you can navigate to the slot directory. There you can monitor the output of the log files using tail. eg

tail -f stderr.txt

If it continues to produce output, we know its doing analysis.

Oh, I forgot to tell the WU is running under Windows XP. ;-)

EDIT: I can't open the stderr.txt but from the date I see it hasn't been updated for 9 hrs or so. I guess the WU's dead then... :-(

I aborted the WU now but I managed to save the stderr out before, you can download it from here: http://www.file-upload.net/download-1621433/stderr.txt.html.
HTH! :-)

EDIT #2: D'oh, I'm stupid - you can of course see it here in the result: http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/result.php?resultid=56395

The WU failed on my co-crunchers' boxes: http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/workunit.php?wuid=15440
