I'll work with the host company to see what we can do to get this fixed. It appears we may have been compromised. I may have to take everything off line. When I do so, I'll post about it in the BOINC forums.

* Backup database.

Done.
* Empty database (??)

The stuck tasks have now been freed.

Adding:
* Rebuilding feeder, assimilators, validators against latest BOINC API.
* Adding another application Andrey asked for.
* Change requirement of 100 RAC for profile to 100 credit.

To counter the spam attacks, I've set the Organization forum to be a dev-blog, meaning only those with moderator titles can start threads there.
Furthermore, you now need a minimum of 100 credit to be able to post in the main forums, such as Number Crunching, Science and Cafe forums. If all's well, this is really credit, not RAC. So someone please test for me.

I've also set a task that forum threads older than 180 days are locked automatically. This task runs once every 24 hours. Id any of your threads are affected and you want them open, let me know and I'll unlock it.

Added to that, I am looking for volunteers who want to be our new moderators. I'll need about 4 total, knowledge of BOINC and being able to moderate people with lots of humor, is useful. :-)
PM me if you're interested. I already asked 1 person

Or maybe not yet. We found something weird.
In http://boinc.drugdiscoveryathome.com/team_display.php?teamid=512 it shows no founder, but in the database it does. It also shows Conan as team founder when we look at the member list.

Edit: Perhaps it's some weird caching thing. I'll sit on it for 24 hours.
Edit2: it now shows Conan as the founder.

I can scratch off adding Conan as Team Founder from the list.
Anyone else with a similar problem as his, let me know and I'll look into your problem. You can post in your own thread, or PM to me.

Well, 1024MB was the maximum I had given it earlier.
In the mean time I tested with 4GB, 3, even 2, but 1.5Gb is the maximum that it wants to take to allow any work to begin. I only just noticed that the output file isn't being generated, so more stuff to figure out. :)

OK, so the 550MB tasks don't have any molecules in them, while the 755MB task I just ran runs out of memory. Sigh. Recompiling. :)

Although it throws some Java errors, but seeing how with the short task the output isn't in any way affected, I doubt this is much of a problem.

So today is my 'stay-at-home' day, the one free day I may have this week before my mother takes up all my attention again. See, the personal thing I posted about in the news thread was that my mother got her third CVA last week, in the middle of local carnaval (Mardi Gras), with our doctor celebrating that festivity.

I just threw everything from my agenda and went to care for her, until I found professional help to take over from me. But even with that now found, my mother still calls on me every day. She'll probably telephone me later, but she knows I am not coming today. :-)

So... I think I have time to work further on wrapping SmartCyp.

OK, so far I have found that the executable that I built does work, when run stand-alone. Although it throws some Java errors, but seeing how with the short task the output isn't in any way affected, I doubt this is much of a problem.

No, the problem is file sizes and amount of memory that they take up.

The short task that I test with is roughly 14KB in size and runs for 233 iterations, which take, including writing the output files, about 30 seconds.
So the input file is 14 KB, the output file is however 221KB for the .CVS file and 5,114KB for the .HTML file. Its memory use is approximately 200MB, doable on your computers.

However, the larger files that Andrey wants to use as well are...
192MB when zipped, yet between 600 and 770MB when unzipped. I haven't found out yet how long they run for, but max memory use I found thus far is 1,070,232KB per task.

So either we run short tasks with large output, or we run large tasks with unknown (but expected extremely large) output. In both cases I'll hear you scream at me. ;-)

... this is going to take a lot of head scratching.

Well, that worked manually. Thanks for the test work, Andrey. I just hope that for the project the work lasts a little longer than 20 seconds, as else we'll have server overload of all the tasks being downloaded & uploaded. ;-)

Tomorrow the test will be what it does when I actually wrap the Jsmooth'ed application and then throw the work at it. Wish me luck. :)

ToDo list as of February 9th 2013 and in no actual order:

  • Backup database.
  • Empty database (??)
  • A neat logo for the front page.
  • What to do with the Drupal front page?
  • What the heck could the Drupal password be? Jack forgot.
  • Keep an eye on the transitioner.
  • Wrap SmartCyp and throw some work at it.
  • Cryptology.
  • Prune the forums? (Does anyone mind if I empty the forums a bit, or take out specific forums from the database?)
  • Figure out how to throw work at the present applications.
  • Do we need a GPU application?
  • Add some colour to the forums and front page.
  • Anything else serious?

  • Goof: Find some other music than Machinae Supremacy to play when doing work. Too much air-guitar!
  • Goof: Take at least one week off to play Crysis 3 come February 19th...

I know that the back-end works as it should, that when we have work for the existing applications that it's just a case of adding a job to the work generator. No problem there.

No, the problem at this time is that there's old work stuck in limbo in the database that I can't get out. I don't want that to interfere in any way with any future work. But for the moment I can't ask my secret helper either as he's snowed in and maybe without power. So I'll have to wait, patiently, for him to come back to me. :)

Now, I won't hold any of you back to attach computers to this project, but do know that for the foreseeable future there won't be any work here. I have to juggle attention on this project between real world issues and here, and practically do that either at night or in the weekend.

The learning curve isn't so much a problem, I seem to know more about BOINC's back-end than even I knew, and I am still finding problems in the source code for the developers to fix. Mostly Subversion stuff that needs to be translated to Git.

So far I am just making a to-do list. Adding to it whenever I find something I missed earlier. And then emailing Jack about it, as it was his puppy.

I know that Andrey wants to revive this project quickly, but then we'll be in need of more help than just glorified me. So any of you with knowledge of the back-end, with knowledge of how to wrap Java apps into the newest BOINC wrapper, with knowledge of writing scripts in php, Javascript, Java, Perl and whatever else, please contact us. You can do so in this thread, or in PM if you prefer that.

All help is welcome.

The only unique identifier that BOINC uses is the email address. We can all be called ChertseyAl and confuse the heck out of each other, but your nick isn't the unique part in this.

I've put the database dump on my todo list though. It's been there since the problem with the transitioner.

OK, everything at the back is updated. Still got a thing or two to fix, such as the extra "Drugdiscovery@Home" on the front page. But at least the news is now showing, and also available as RSS.

I can't convert the old news, it complains that the news forum already exists. What else is new? ;-)

And I'll have to figure out how to remove the stuck task values from the database. But that's for tomorrow.

Any bugs you find, please post about them.
I know about the feeder and transitioner not running. Probably something to do with the newer back-end software. I'll have to ask my sources about that.
