Hi all,

For the next couple of months I'll be taking over administrating this project. Having neigh on no experience with the BOINC back-end, I'm looking forward to it, if only for the added experience.

As the first thing, I have updated the forum software and merged the forums.
Then hacked the database to add the news forum. The script that should've done this didn't work. I am now trying to fix it so the news actually shows on the front page, not just in the 'old news' section.

There's no work as of yet. I'm busy trying to figure out how to get a Java application working with the new BOINC wrapper. But for this wrapper to work, we need more up-to-date BOINC server software, so guess what's next on the To-Do list?

That's great! As long as the next item on the ToDo list doesn't mean implementing CreditNew. :)

Ah good one, need to remember to disable that one. If it isn't disabled by default.

So far, haven't had luck with getting the news to show up.
Oh, and the scheduler error that you may get has something to do with the gui_urls.xml file that I added. I don't see where it's missing the close tag, all of mine are in place. But perhaps that it needs updated back-end software as well, so will test for that one first.

Wow, it all just changed as I was reading it!

One thing that might be causing problems with the news not showing is that some html formatting must be wrong as my user name and logout link appear within the UOTD section between the name and the profile.

Oh, it was quite tricky to type this as the forum contents are inside a pane/frame/whatever with both horizontal and vertical scroll bars - Don't know if that's deliberate.

Anyway, good luck - You'll need it :)

Cheers,

Al.

During the next hours and tomorrow, I will be updating the server software. Because this is best done with the server off line, I'm expecting the project to be down for one or more hours.

OK, everything at the back is updated. Still got a thing or two to fix, such as the extra "Drugdiscovery@Home" on the front page. But at least the news is now showing, and also available as RSS.

I can't convert the old news, it complains that the news forum already exists. What else is new? ;-)

And I'll have to figure out how to remove the stuck task values from the database. But that's for tomorrow.

Any bugs you find, please post about them.
I know about the feeder and transitioner not running. Probably something to do with the newer back-end software. I'll have to ask my sources about that.

Now, I won't hold any of you back to attach computers to this project, but do know that for the foreseeable future there won't be any work here. I have to juggle attention on this project between real world issues and here, and practically do that either at night or in the weekend.

The learning curve isn't so much a problem, I seem to know more about BOINC's back-end than even I knew, and I am still finding problems in the source code for the developers to fix. Mostly Subversion stuff that needs to be translated to Git.

So far I am just making a to-do list. Adding to it whenever I find something I missed earlier. And then emailing Jack about it, as it was his puppy.

I know that Andrey wants to revive this project quickly, but then we'll be in need of more help than just glorified me. So any of you with knowledge of the back-end, with knowledge of how to wrap Java apps into the newest BOINC wrapper, with knowledge of writing scripts in php, Javascript, Java, Perl and whatever else, please contact us. You can do so in this thread, or in PM if you prefer that.

All help is welcome.

why not use uppercase and uppercase-cuda - at least to make sure everything is working server-side?

I know that the back-end works as it should, that when we have work for the existing applications that it's just a case of adding a job to the work generator. No problem there.

No, the problem at this time is that there's old work stuck in limbo in the database that I can't get out. I don't want that to interfere in any way with any future work. But for the moment I can't ask my secret helper either as he's snowed in and maybe without power. So I'll have to wait, patiently, for him to come back to me. :)

I'm sorry everyone, but events in my personal life have caused me throw everything off my calendar for the past week and at least for the next week. I hope that after next week I'll be able to catch up on what I had planned for the past week.
