Let's discuss some ambitious goals. Like becoming a top project with biggest number of users. Why do we need this? Biological computing is really the most computing time demanding process and the practical output is in direct correlation with computing power. So do you have any ideas for this? I'm not talking just about friendly support, results publishing, stable applications works - that's for true and with these conditions we'll be able to get 10-15 thousands of users in the best case. But what is about something special?
So what do you suggest? Some special policies, users parties, meetings with teamleaders etc. etc.?

Just spread the word and once we become an official green light project(out of Alpha and Beta). I believe that what we need is a Very Simple But Detailed explanation about the Work that the mass computers will be computing...
We'll get users/Volunteers as time goes on.. "an example is Robertmiles who sent me a pm on Rosetta asking if he could join"

Another thing that gets people is to get on the boinc project list...this page: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php

Another thing, spread the word via myspace/facebook/etc.

btw, what type of research are we doing in the medicine field?? someone may have told me but lets clear that up right now(i know that the research type may fluctuate)...

1: one thing is, we should appeal to other projects volunteers like rosseta and WCG. Steal away users is not the goal however, we just want a piece of the pie from a computer, thats all that we need to ask...
2: Gamers,!!!!!! i'm a gamer and come from the gaming online world.. i want to see more of us gamers be involved in boinc or distributed computing...ways to do this to get into some communities and get active and don't push it but just fly the boinc or drug-discovery banner. maybe someone should hit up the xfire staff...???
xfire community profile count/users: 14,505,013.
Steam: 1,544,217 online when i looked.
i'm trying to spread the world with the XEN(xoohq.com) community.

please add us to your list.... that should be our line..

Please; no post ABOUT getting apps working right and checkpointing and progress bar... we should focus and talk about promotion in this thread... thank you.

Very interesting ideas. Gamers usually have good GPUs so this can be additional benefit.

not just good gpu's... but high GHZ processors, usually overclocked.

Just don't come out of alpha and beta the way Rosetta@home did - without making enough effort at cutting down their rather high error level. Currently, it looks like it is often exchanging roles with Ralph@home at still being an alpha project.

The explanation part is a good idea.

You could try having a separate workunit type for low-end Nvidia cards; the same type of calculations, but chosen to be less urgent and therefore allowing longer deadlines. Currently, I'm having trouble finding ANY BOINC projects related to medical research which can use the Nvidia card on my laptop, which I'd expect to be faster than a CPU but not as fast as the GPU cards which can participate in GPUGRID.

we plan to be rolling with 2-3 different apps "GPU(gromacs), CPU(MDrun, Autodock)"

Jack is in Spain at Barcelona Boinc Workshop. So; Hopefully when he gets back stateside, we'll roll quicker.

Actually mdrun is also part of GROMACs, so mainly two applications now - GROMACS and Autodock, but maybe some QSAR methods will be available soon.
