With this settings:
minimum quorum 3
initial replication 3
max # of error/total/success tasks 5, 5, 3
errors Too many total results

you should not send out WUs like this to new crunchers. Mine got cancelled soon enough, but the one with the probably valid result will probably get nothing without it being his/her fault.

this is too make sure that the actual app is also working b/c i've had several wu's work and others don't and it's a way to get a good judge on if the work is right..

also, if 3 out of 3 error out, and the next2 that are sent error out.. it pretty much means that wu is a bad one...

If 3 errored out, no further valid is possible with a max of 5 total results and a min of 3 valids.

I've been on the receiving end of this dumb numbers as well in this WU:

3 DL-errors because of missing app, 1 probably valid result (mine) 1 redundant result (lucky guy) and one who still waits for the declaration of his/her futile efforts to crunch this WU.

If there are already 3 WUs sent out with DL-error and you don't put the numbers in totals higher, you must not send any other result to any cruncher because it's impossible to get a validated result.

I keep modifying these settings and it gives me a headache trying to figure out what makes most sense. Ideally we have a situation where 3 workunits get validated. In some cases you will have an error or two. How shall we set it if we want to be forgiven up to 2 errors?

and i think most of which what Saenger is seeing is b/c most of those computers dled and had trouble with the app dl's like i did or something to this effect.

5/7/3 would be fine, 5/8/3 imho better, the totals should always be at least (success + errors).

And yes, it's becaue of the app-dl probs after restart. The first 3 created tasks were sent unsuccesful to 3 crunchers, and of course all failed without an app.
NOw 3 new were created afterwards, and most of them still seem to be not send anywhere. But the total number is now 6, one more as allowed, and as soon as the last one is DLed by a cruncher the WU gets invalid because of too many total results

after updating software, i think you can just delete records with invalid downloads in current batch? or they are needed for some reason?

I've got one task of this WU, 3 are already errors, with 3 as a quorum it's impossible to get it validated with the max # of totals put to 5.

It seems as if you have done nothing in regard of this problem and are still wasting our CPU power for such absolutely futile tasks.

I've so far only put this WU on pause, as it's probably still possible to change the wrong numbers.

As long as you have a maximum total of 5 tasks per WU you must never send a new task if 3 errors are already reported.
